You’ve decided to refresh your site, launch a new social presence, or email newsletter. Before you hit “publish” read that copy out loud…does it sound like your brand? Does it clearly communicate your value? Will it resonate with your audience? With your team?
If you’re not sure, it may be time to reset. Here are some techniques to avoid getting stuck in a rut.
3 x 3 x 3 Method
Identify three adjectives that describe:
- Your Perception of Your Brand Today
- How Clients/Customers Would Describe Your Brand
- What You Want Your Brand to Represent Moving Forward
Find the overlap. Thesaurus the shit out of those sentiments to find words that feel authentic, and start using those internally. Build consensus, empowering your team to become evangelists – the strongest brand voices are consistent internally & externally.
Exploit That White Space
Identify your top 3-5 competitors. Outline their core strengths. See a glaring omission in their offering? Meet your newest opportunity.
Consider how you can own that thing, and position it as a core strength.
Art Project
Can’t articulate your brand in words? Get your creativity flowing with a vision board.
If your brand were a person, where would they live? What would their hobbies be? How would they dress? Who would their heroes be?
Whether you scribble or screenshot, get it down on paper. That artifact will become a touchstone, reminding you what matters most.
Like these ideas but need someone to hold you accountable AND help you set metrics for success? Let’s get to work.
